Getting Started as a Host
Before you can go live, you need to:
Have a display name set on your profile
Set up your session card (steps below)
Open the GiG app and sign in.
Tap the Profile tab at the bottom of the screen.
Tap Become a Host.
Fill in your session details:
Session title — a clear, short title for your GiG (up to 30 characters).
Cost per minute — your rate in USD. Must be between $0.20 and $10.00. Attendees are billed at this rate in arrears, at 30-second increments of connected call time.
Description — a short summary of what attendees can expect from your session (up to 100 characters).
Session category — choose the category that best describes your GiG (e.g. Coaching, Health, Technology). This helps attendees find you.
Upload a banner image for your session card. This is the visual that attendees see when browsing. A clear, relevant image works best.
Tap Save Session Card. You'll see a confirmation on screen when it's saved successfully.
Go to the Home tab. You'll see an Online/Offline toggle in the top bar on the right. Tap it to go Online — your session card will now appear to attendees.
When an attendee joins your GiG, you'll receive a notification. Tap Join Call from the banner that appears on your Home tab to enter the session.
Pro tip: Once your session card is saved, you can share a direct link to your GiG to bring your own audience in. See: Sharing Your GiG Link
Notes:
You must have a display name set on your profile before you can go online. See: Managing Your Profile
Setting up a payout account is not required to go live — you can toggle Online, appear to attendees, and take calls without one. It's only needed to actually receive your earnings, so we recommend setting it up before you start earning. See: Payment & Payouts
Make your session card stand out
Your session card is the first thing attendees see. A clear, specific card gets more joins than a vague one. Here's the difference:
Field | ✅ Strong | ⚠️ Weak |
Session title | "30-min Career Coaching" | "Chat" |
Category | Coaching | General |
Cost per minute | $2.50 — clear value, approachable for a first session | $9.50 — steep for a new, unknown host |
Description | "Practical CV, interview & career-change help — 10 yrs in HR." | "we can talk about stuff" |
Banner | Clear, well-lit photo or a relevant image | Blurry, dark, or unrelated |
Be specific about what you offer and who it's for — attendees decide in seconds.
Price to get started: any rate from $0.20 to $10.00 per minute is allowed, but a friendly starting rate helps you get your first sessions and reviews. You keep 80%.
Pick the closest category so the right attendees find you.
Stay within the limits: title up to 30 characters, description up to 100 — short and punchy beats long and vague.
Running a great session
A few simple things make the difference between a session an attendee loves and one they cut short:
Use a stable connection — strong wifi or a good mobile signal. Dropped calls end sessions early and disappoint attendees.
Pick a quiet, well-lit spot — face a light source, and avoid a bright window directly behind you.
Enable camera & microphone permissions before you go Online.
Only go Online when you can actually take a call — attendees are calling you live, so answer promptly when a call comes in.
Be professional and follow the Community Guidelines in every session.
FAQs
I tapped Save and nothing happened.
Check for an error popup — if a required field is missing or invalid, the save won't go through. All fields (title, cost per minute, description, category, and banner image) are required. If everything is valid, a confirmation appears on screen.
I don't see my session on the Home page.
Your session only appears to attendees when you are set to Online. Make sure you've toggled your status to Online in the top bar of the Home tab — your session will not show up while you're Offline.
Can I update my session details after saving?
Yes. Go to Profile tab → Session Detail at any time to edit your title, description, rate, category, or banner image. Tap Save Session Card to apply your changes.
Do I need a payout account set up before I can go online?
No. You can go Online, appear on the Home tab, and take calls without a payout account. You will need one set up to actually receive your earnings, so set it up whenever suits you before you're due a payment.
